A Mensa Member’s Book and Film List releases this week! This strange little 75 page oddity was about fifteen years in the making and finally found its form this summer. If you can imagine this, it’s more or less an autobiography of all the books I read (a lot) and all the films and plays I watched (a lot) for that time period, about fifteen years. You’ll get to see how a truly voracious, obsessive mind goes from topic to topic, in depth, and then off on tangents of various sorts. It’s like a constant graduate school of my own making, but there are worse vices, I think. Librarians are patient with me.

I’m not sure what I did. I did download and install calibre on my Linux machine. Not sure I needed it, since clicking on Kindle library on Amazon gave me a cloud reader. When I was done reading it, I deleted it from my cloud library. I did try to download it for further study but failed. I did manage to convert the Calibre manual to pdf and save it where I wanted it.
Reminds me, my teacher from kindergarten said my brother and I were the only kindergarten students she ever had who could take the workbook, read the Teacher’s instructions and do the work. Sounds like you could have done that, too.
This last trip to the States last month, I found old report cards, and there was a reading certificate. It was printed for 20 books, and the teacher inked out 20 and wrote 50 over it. But, I had no access to a county library. She did, so I had to wait for her to bring the books to school. This was a one room country school, around 1950 or so.
Today was our 38th anniversary. We drove into Tehuacan and ate at a small street restaurant across the street from the zocalo park. The meat was excellent, and so was the guacamole. My wife knows it is hard for me to eat out, so she was pleased that i took her.
The zocalo park was murdered. The big old trees were trimmed way down. I assume because some of those big, old trees have been falling down without warning. Makes sense, but it sure is less beautiful.

Finally got to read this. Thanks for the mention(s) of me! I was thinking as I read the first part that I too don’t remember not knowing how to read. Then as I read on, you said that about me! I enjoyed the part about Grandma having the bookmobile stop at your house, the only residence on the route.
